U.S. International Water Policy

In the second phase of the Global Water Futures project, GSI hosted a series of working group meetings with a technical advisory group of water experts—from nongovernmental organizations to the Department of Defense, and from Capitol Hill to the National Laboratories. These experts represent a broad range of interests, including water’s ties to public health, peace-making and peacekeeping, economic development, and diplomacy. Based on the ideas discussed with the working group, GSI produced a set of policy recommendations to serve as the foundation for a comprehensive, integrated U.S. strategy for international water programs. Ultimately, we hope that these recommendations will guide activity in the U.S. government to follow on the advances made in the Senator Paul Simon Water for the Poor Act of 2005.
