Our Mission

Prepare tomorrow’s leaders to think and act strategically by offering them a hands-on learning experience that will transform their intellectual approach to global issues.

What We Do

The Global Strategy Institute designs short, two to five day seminars that introduce students to a range of future challenges and to our faculty of world-renowned CSIS experts. We bring students out of the classroom and give them valuable experiential learning in a distinctive, stimulating environment. In this light, we seek to partner with universities and explore innovative ways to deliver creative experiences to their students.

The Seminar

  • Students prepare for the course by reading a selection of related articles provided by the Institute.
  • Throughout the duration of the Washington seminar, students will: (1) engage with CSIS senior scholars; (2) participate in experiential learning scenario activities; (3) interact with other Washington policy-making institutions; and (4) gain insight into foreign policy careers.
This curriculum can be expanded or abridged to fit the needs of a particular program. The Institute relies on past experience and a set of suggested course listings to assess each group’s interests and objectives. We use these tools to develop a course specifically tailored to meet your goals.

Designing and Implementing Your Program

Through a series of consultations, each course is customized to match CSIS expertise with the individual needs of the college or university. Through the consultative process, the Institute’s team will create the list of suggested readings and/or assignments, determine an agenda for the CSIS-Washington seminar, and develop the scenario-based exercise to test the students’ newly acquired knowledge. During the seminar, the Institute’s team will facilitate the students’ immersion by leading discussions and helping the students digest the information presented. After dissecting and analyzing global issues with some of the world’s leading scholars, students leave CSIS energized and equipped with the intellectual tools to effectively address these topics in their universities and future careers.
